I work with small retail businesses — usually with 10 to 15 employees — where the owner feels stretched too thin and daily operations are harder than they should be. My focus is on bringing clarity, structure, and efficiency so teams run smoothly and owners can step out of the day-to-day chaos.

I’m Becca Chavis, founder of Pelorus Coaching. With a Business Administration degree and over 15 years of experience in retail and nonprofit management, I’ve led teams, built systems, and turned struggling operations into thriving ones. I know firsthand that the right processes can transform not only a business, but also the owner’s ability to lead with confidence.
My passion is helping entrepreneurs succeed without burning out. I’ve been in the trenches, and I know how exhausting it is when your business runs you instead of the other way around. That’s why I started Pelorus Coaching, to give small business owners the tools, systems, and support they need to grow with confidence.

When I was searching for a name for my business, I noticed how many companies used the word “compass.” It’s a strong image, but I wanted something that stood out while still reflecting navigation and direction. That’s when I discovered the word pelorus — a type of nautical compass used to find bearings at sea. It was unique, clear, and captured exactly what I wanted my work to represent: helping business owners chart their course with confidence.
The very next day, I happened to hear the story of Pelorus Jack, a Risso’s dolphin who became famous in the early 1900s for guiding ships safely through a dangerous strait in New Zealand. The coincidence felt like confirmation that I’d found the right name — one that combines both direction and guidance.
